Just came into possession of an 8" Cave Astrola. This scope was literally saved from the local waste transfer station! Matt, a local bike shop owner grabbed it when he found it at the dump. Knowing a bunch of folks at the observatory, also his customers, he put out the word that the scope was at his shop, just come and get it. As everyone knows I restore old scopes, word quickly came to me. There is some damage, the tube is shattered around the mirror cell mounts. The finder is missing, one caster, rusted shafts, and other various minor damage. Still assesing the condition, will remove the primary next for assesment of the coating and to get the info from the side, serial and date of manufacture. After that the drive comes apart. Everything looks repairable, it will take some work, but that is what I do. My last project was Obsession serial number 3, a 20" f/4.5 that is again a pretty and functional scope.
