Hello, I am a fairly recent starter in astronomy but managed to snag a very nice Astrola locally here in Perth, Western Australia. It doesn’t really require too much work, other than converting the 50Hz 240VAC to 60Hz 120VAC for the clock drive. I ended up going down to 12VDC then back to the required power as frequency changers are horribly expensive here. There have already been some good evenings, once the twins have gone to bed and I want to do things more efficiently in terms of pointing at objects. With this in mind I have acquired some digital setting circles (Losmandy) and am seeking advice as to how best to mount them without having to undertake any surgery on the GEM. At this stage, my best idea is to use hose clamps to secure the encoder mount to the axes. I have no doubt there are better ideas and look forward to others experience doing this. Regards Nick
